Clean Bengaluru Message by Rohan Builders Plogging Party

A “Clean Bengaluru” message was unequivocally reaffirmed by Rohan Builders, sixty enthusiastic students and citizens on 16th Feb at Rohan Upavan, Hennur Road, Bengaluru.

Special thanks to DesignSense, the residents of Fern Meadows and students from Oasis International, Brighton and NICC who showed up and were very dedicated to the task. The old, the young and those in the middle joined the cleanliness drive and ‘went at’ the problem areas with zealous spirit.

The keen sense and sincere will to contribute to a better neighborhood saw the students give their all despite the morning heat.

We walked and we talked about issues, Identifying the reasons and reflecting on why waste is harmful to the environment. In just 100 meters, we had almost filled up the tractor trolley. The short 1 km distance was a lot of work.

The Takeaway

To quote one of the students – “We knew that the area we passed through every morning was not as clean as it should have been. Nevertheless, now that we have made an effort to clean it, our next step has to be to create awareness amongst people, motivating them at least to keep their neighbourhood clean.”

The Surprise

The satisfaction of having cleaned the area surpassed all tiredness and the walk finally came to the end at ‪10 am.

A sumptuous breakfast in the beautiful orchard of Rohan Upavan was organized for the weary achiever’s group. Delicious refreshments were served up by Watsons. On the way back to the Design Barn, the bus carrying the students was abuzz with conversations regarding starting a campaign and effective means of disposing off waste. We express our gratitude to Jacob Cherian for this initiative, the teachers of the schools who encouraged the students to participate, and DesignSense, who took time off their hectic schedules to be pioneers of change.
